Welcome to 5th and 6th Class!
SCHOOL YEAR 2023/2024:
The Teachers for Fifth Class are: Ms. M. Yore, Mr. R. Marmion, Ms. C. Greally and Mr. O'Brien. The Teachers for Sixth Class are: Mr. M. O'Neill, Ms. A. Mitchell/Ms. Gallingan, Ms. C. Collier and Mr. M. Brennan. There will be lots of interesting work taking place in these classes this year and we hope to keep you updated on these pages.
Fifth Class 2023/24
April 2024
Ms. Yore's class began their cycling lessons. The children are enjoying learning all about safety when cycling.


November 2023
Ms.Yore's Class really enjoyed their first assembly on Friday 24th November. It was fantastic to celebrate all the acheiments of the different classes! Congratulations to our class rep for receiving their student Council badge from Ms.Nolan and Ms.Madden.

September / October 2023
Ms. Yore's class have settled into 5th Class very well. They are enjoying their engagement in new activities. They recently began their work with the artist Vera McEvoy. Each student is working on a notebook which reflects their culture. The children are covering many different strands with Vera such as; weaving, sewing, print, paint and drawing. We can't wait to see how our finished projects come together.

April 2024
STEM: We were challenged to build the tallest tower possible using only spaghetti and marshmallows (although the hardest challenge was not eating all the marshmallows!)

Gaeilge: We have been learning about éadaí in Irish. To use the Irish we learned in our lessons we put on a seó faisin sa rang.

PE: We finished up our Cycle safety training. The class had great fun playing Limbo on their bikes!


March 2024
During March we celebrated World Book Day and dressed up as some of our favourite book characters.

We celebrated Seactain na Gaeilge by singing a song for the school concert.

We started to take part in PE lessons through Irish. Orienteering was great fun.

We also planted the seeds and are looking forward to watching our plants grow.


February 2024
In February we started our Cycle Safety Training in PE. We are learning how to cycle safely in our community.

We took part in a STEM challenge to build a bridge that could hold the heaviest weight using only paper and sellotape.
And we got to make some yummy pancakes for Pancake Tuesday.


January 2024
Happy new year from all in 5th class! We got 2024 off to a great start with some brilliant artwork


December 2023
We had a very busy month in December as we prepared for Christmas. In science we completed our work on gravity. We designed and created a parachute to help Santa land safely from him sleigh.

We spent a lot of time preparing for our Christmas play Caught by Christmas. We even got to see a performance of A Christmas Carol to help inspire our show.

We had lots of fun decorating gingerbread men. And had a very special visitor to the classroom!


November 2023
In November we remember all our loved ones who are no longer with us. We created a space in the classroom to remember our family who have passed away.
In science we began looking at the force of gravity and what causes objects to fall.

October 2023
We were learning all about Halloween in October. We learnt about Halloween traditions like carving pumpkins and bobbing for apples. We enjoyed playing Halloween games and created some beautiful artwork!


September 2023
5th class have settled in well as we head back to school. Here is some of the great work they did this month!

May 2024
We had our final school assembly of the year. Here we have a photo of Rilan, Roman and Holly who brought in their amazing trophy and medals to show us all.
There were also four children who received certificates. Airidas for neat handwriting, Ryan Morgan and Caylee for not being bystanders to bullying, and Kiara for being Gaeilgeoir na Míosa.
Well done to all!

We had so much fun taking part in our school marathon relay.

We have started cycling and we're really enjoying it. We're learning all about safety when cycling.

June 2024
The children in 5th class had a magnificent school tour at Alive Outside. They thoroughly enjoyed their time there, especially the water slide and obstacle course.
May 2024
Benhur, in Mr. O'Brien's 5th class, is very much interested in playing music. Recently he has earned his Grade 3 in electronic keyboard from Trinity college, London.

World Book Day
Mr. O'Brien and his class had great fun dressed up as Gru and the Minions for 'World Book Day'.

January 2024
Mr. O'Brien's class had a wonderful time and learned lots of interesting facts about 'Robotics' when given a talk by Steam Academy.

Science Project
Mr. O’ Neill’s class participated in the Intel Mini Scientist competition on November 10th 2023. Their hard work and dedication was evident as they produced some creative and informative science projects. Well done!

March 2024
Confirmation
The children making confirmation received their confirmation on the 20th of March which was a very special day for the children, the school and their families. All the children really enjoyed their special day and should be so proud of themselves.


Seachtain na Gaeilge
The children enjoyed celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge through hosting a bake sale where the children spoke Irish, a ceilí, a ceolchoirm, St Patricks Day art and green day.






March was a very busy month for Ms Colliers 6th Class. We celebrated world book day, Seachtain na Gaeilge, and some of the children made their confirmation.
World book day
We celebrated world book day this month. The children dressed up as their favourite book character or wore their cosy clothes to school.

World Book Day Preparations
On the 7th of March we will celebrate World Book Day in school. In preparation for World Book Day each class is designing their classroom door based on their favourite Irish book. As a class, we decided to design our door based on the book Harry Potter agus an Órchloch. The children all worked together to design our classroom door and did an amazing job. Well done to everyone!

Gaeilge
In Irish, we're learning about the weather during the winter season. The children in pairs, prepared and presented the weather forecast to the class. The children really enjoyed working in pairs for this activity.


December 2023
Art
We were busy in Ms Colliers class using clay and paint to create Christmas decorations.


Intel Mini Scientist Regional Final
Two of the children from Ms Collier's class attended the Intel Mini Scientist Regional Final on the 13th of December with their project on 'The Hydraulic Hand'. While they did not progress through to the grand final, the hard work and effort they put into their project was acknowledged by the judges on the day. They did themselves and the school very proud by representing the school in the regional final.

November 2023
Intel Mini Scientist
The children in Ms Collier's prepared excellent projects for the Intel Mini Scientist competition. They presented their projects to other classes in the school and the judges from Intel on the 10th of November. All of their projects were very creative and they should be so proud of themselves for all their hard work over the last 6 weeks. Huge congratulations to two of the children in our class who got through to the regional final, huge accomplishment.



Gaeilge
We did a conversation circle during the week through Irish. They asked their partner questions through Irish and when the bell went, they moved to the next person. It gave the children an excellent opportunity to improve their irish.

October 2023
Our first 6th class bake sale was a huge success. The children really enjoyed selling baked goods to the other classes in the school.

Halloween
The children enjoyed dressing up for Halloween this month. We had some excellent costumes.

In art we used paint and oil pastels to explore different cool and warm tones.
September 2023
We all settled very well into Ms Colliers’ 6th class in September. We were very busy this month, we learnt all about ancient China and modern day China. In groups, the children did outstanding projects on China.


November 2023
They Blinded Us… With Science
On November 10th, the students of 6th class took part in the INTEL mini scientist. The event, which occurs each year in St. Stephen’s NS during Science Week, involved students creating a science based project and demonstrating it to a collection of scientists and engineers from INTEL in Leixlip. The class had a number of projects including:
· Balloon Powered Cars
· Iron Energy
· Solar Powered Cars
· Salt Crystals
· Magnets
· Elephant Toothpaste
· Lighting a Light Bulb
· Electricity from a Potato
· Rubber-band Powered Cars
While none of the pupils in Mr. Brennan’s class were the overall winners on the day, the effort made over the past six weeks on these projects was acknowledged by the judges on the day. The class did themselves very proud and received a certificate for being part of this innovative initiative as well as a couple of other great prizes. Maith sibh Rang a Sé!

October 2023
Geandáil Ghasta i Ranga 6
Bhí na daltaí i rang Mr. Brennan ag foghlaim fúthu féin agus faoi a scoil ar fud na míonna. Rinne siad ciorcal comhrá an i rith na seachtaine. Chuir siad ceisteanna ar a bpartnéir (trí Gaeilge). Nuair bhuail an chlog, bhog siad go dtí an chéad duine eile. Ba dheis iontacht a Gaeilge a fheabhsú agus caidreamh nua a thógáil ar scoil. Bhain an rang go léir sult agus taitneamh as an gniomhíocht.
“Speed Dating” in 6th Class
The pupils in Mr. Brennan’s class having been learning about themselves and their school this month. They did a conversation circle during the week. They asked their partner questions (through Irish). When the bell went, they moved to the next person. It was a wonderful opportunity to improve Gaeilge and build new friendships at school. The class really enjoyed the activity.

September 2023
All About China
This month has a been a busy month in SESE (Science, Geography and History) and Arts (Visual Arts and Drama) where students have been learning all about China including Ancient China and modern day China. Students have been learning about the building of the Great Wall of China (which cannot be seen from space despite the rumours) and the Terracatto Army. We've also been learning about modern China and how it now the second most populated country in the world (but only since last year) as well as all about the giant pandas and conservation efforts to save them.
Students also did incredible projects at home based on Ancient China at home over the last fortnight which are nothing short of incredible.
