Welcome to Junior/Senior Infants
SCHOOL YEAR 2023/24:
The Teachers for this year are: Junior Infants: Ms. L. Rice, Ms. O .Foley, Ms. M. Tuite and Ms. S. McFadden. The Senior Infant Teachers are Ms. A. O'Reilly, Ms. T. Duffy, Ms. T. Wilson and Ms. E. Halpenny. We will keep you posted on events taking place and updates from class.
Junior Infants 2023/24
June 2024
Despite the rain the children had a great day on their school tour to Newgrange Farm. We saw a lot of animals and went on a tractor ride with Farmer John.
May 2024
We had great fun on Sports Day. We played games in the garden and in the PE hall. We ended the day with a teddy bear picnic.
April 2024
We really enjoyed our Spring walk in the school garden. We saw bugs, trees, flowers and lots more.
We planted Sunflower seeds in school this month. We cannot wait to see them grow!
March 2024
The boys and girls had great fun this week for Seachtain na Gaeilge. We sang songs at the ceolchoirm and danced at the ceilí. We loved dressing up in our green clothes too.
January 2024
Ms. Rice's class had a great start to the year. We enjoyed Food Dudes and got to try lots of fruit and vegetables. We all received a new lunch box, drink bottle and certificates for trying new healthy foods.
December 2023
Junior Infants performed their first ever Christmas play in school and they were fantastic. They loved dressing up in their costumes too. Santa and Mrs. Claus also came to visit and gave us some reindeer food to leave out for Rudolph and his reindeers on Christmas Eve.

November 2023
Junior Infants has a busy November. We began practicing for our Christmas play and had a first assembly. The boys and girls were so happy with their awards.

October 2023
There was great excitement when we completed the Dancing Ghost experiment.
The boys and girls in Junior Infants had great fun this week with all of our Halloween activities.

We also dressed up in our spooky Halloween costumes. Happy Halloween everyone!

The boys and girls in Junior Infants have settled in so well and are having lots of fun! We went on a walk around the school and enjoyed reading about Elmer the Elephant.

Green Day
There was great excitement in Ms Foley's class today for Green Day. We had a fabulous time performing An Damhsa Mór at the ceilí and then we went on a parade around the school. We had the best time.


Ms Foleys class had great fun for World Book Day. The Student council came down to our classroom and read us a story. We loved it. We also brought our own books to school and read them in the classroom. We loved showing our favourite books to our friends.

Ms Foleys Junior Infants have been having great fun in the lead up to Christmas. They loved there visit from Santa on Wednesday. They have been very busy making Christmas crafts. Sparkle the elf put their initials on their stockings on night when the children went home...do you like them?

Ms Foleys class have had a great first term. We have really settled into school life in St Stephens. We loved creating our timelines with our photographs and drawing our self portraits. Don't we look great!

Ms Tuite’s class had amazing hairstyles and fabulous colourful clothes for colourful day at school.
Ms Tuite’s class had a great time exploring our sensory garden during our nature walk. We found some buds, nests, blossoms and even some ladybirds. It was great fun.

Ms Tuite’s class had a great morning planting sun flower seeds. We cannot wait to watch them grow.
Ms Tuite’s class had a great time at the sensory fun day. We loved using our senses to explore all different items in the tuff trays.

Ms Tuite’s class were so lucky today, they had a visitor all the way from the North Pole. He said that they did excellent work all year and he couldn’t wait to deliver their presents on Christmas Eve.

Ms Tuite’s class are very busy this week learning the sound ‘h’. We made the formation for ‘h’ with playdough.
Ms Tuite’s class are learning all about Toys. We are having great fun playing in the toy shop, playing with the puppets from our story ‘The Old Toyroom’, making toys with playdough and printing with toys.

Ms Tuite’s class have settled in very well to Junior Infants. We work on our fine motor skills everyday, we have so much fun working on our independent skills. Yeah cause it’s a doctors practice.

Ms Branigan's Junior Infants have settled in very well to St Stephen's N.S. We have been busy working on our fine motor skills. We also enjoyed getting to know our friends and chatting about ourselves. Look at our wonderful self portraits and names.

Aistear - The Birthday Party
We particularly enjoyed this months Aistear theme of ‘The Birthday Party’. We loved working in our groups to design our ideal birthday party!

PE - Gymnastics
Take a look at us being gymnasts in PE! We worked on our balancing skills and our flexibility!

Lá Glas
We had so much fun on green day! We had a céilí in the hall and performed An Damhsa Mór. We also marched in a parade all around the school and waved our flags high!

Procedural writing - Making Rice Krispie Buns
We have been learning all about procedural writing this month! We even got to make Rice Krispie buns and we wrote a detailed procedure on all of the steps!

World Book Day
Take a look at our beautifully decorated door for World Book Day. We loved reading the book Cochailín Dearg! We also dressed up as some of our favourite characters from different books we have read! The student council came into our classroom and read us some big books!
We enjoyed a book cafe morning.

Easter egg hunt
We loved going on an Easter egg hunt. We had to work together as a team to solve all the clues to get our prizes! We got yummy Easter eggs.

February 2024
Pancake Tuesday
There was great excitement in room 14 as we decorated our pancakes. We wrote a procedure first and then got to decorate our yummy pancakes, delicious!!

Maidin Gaelach
We really enjoyed getting to play lots of different Irish games during our Maidin Gaelach.

Maths - Money
We have been exploring the concept of money in Maths. We have loved role-playing using real money and buying things in our Aistear Bakery shop.

Art
Spring has certainly sprung in room 14. Take a look at our beautiful Spring art. We make great artists!

January 2024
We have been learning all about Length in Maths. We had loads of fun measuring lots of objects in the classrooms using cubes!

We have been busy in Senior Infants learning all about the weather station. We really enjoyed pretending we were news reporters and presenting the weather forecast. We also loved the water station.

December 2023
There was great excitement in Senior Infants as Santa and Mrs Claus came to visit our class. Santa even gave us some reindeer food to leave out for the reindeers on Christmas Eve.
Bauble the elf came to visit us for a few weeks! We really enjoyed having her in our class, she played lots of funny tricks on us! She even pretended she was Ms. Halpenny and started teaching our class teddies!
We really enjoyed our Aistear topic ‘Santa’s Workshop’, we acted like little elves and got to work designing and making lots of toys!!

November 2023
We really enjoyed science week in Senior Infants! We acted like scientists carrying out lots of fun experiments! We loved the skittles experiment and the bubbling potion experiment!
We have worked so hard developing lots of different Athletic skills during our stations.
Aistear
Our Aistear topic has been The Restaurant in November. We absolutely loved this topic, we particularly enjoyed serving Ms. Halpenny a four course meal everyday!
September 2023
Ms. Halpenny’s Senior infants have been very busy over the past few weeks, we have been working so hard to decorate our new classroom with all of our wonderful work.
We read the stories Our Class is a Family, The Day the Crayons Quit and Little Red Riding Hood – we made the Big Bad Wolf in art!!

Aistear - School
In Aistear we have been learning all about school. We particularly enjoyed the role play area where we took on the roles of teacher, secretary, SNA, caretaker, principal, etc. In our groups we collaboratively drew our dream school and we also designed our very own school jumpers. In the construction area we designed our own school buildings!

Autumn trail
We got to go on an Autumn nature trail where we used our 5 senses to explore all around our school. We collected all kinds of Autumn leaves, conkers, acorns, twigs, etc!!

Cosmic yoga
We have been loving our cosmic yoga movement breaks!

PE
We have worked so hard developing lots of different Athletic skills during our PE stations.

School Tour
We had the most amazing day yesterday. The sun shone and the children never stopped laughing and running from when left until the bus journey home, where a few fell asleep. Sign of a great day.

February 2024
Pancake Tuesday
This was such a fun day in Room 7. Adults and children alike indulged in lots of pancake themed work/fun for the day. We did lots of pancake counting and adding in maths alongside making bar charts depicting our favourite toppings. We are currently covering procedural writing in English and this theme tied in perfectly well; 'How to Make Pancakes', 'How to Decorate Pancakes'.
In P.E. we had fun pretending to toss/flip pancakes and completed lots of pancake races.
We learned the 'Pancake Day Song' and had great fun performing it.
We didn't forget to also learn about the meaning behind this favourite day of ours. We learned all about Shrove Tuesday and the importance of preparing for Lent.

Grandparents' Day
We love our grandparents very much. Some of us are very lucky to have them play a special part in our lives. Not all of our grandparents live in Ireland so we thought what better way to mark the day but to sing a song and send it far and wide.

Christmas is always a special time of year in every classroom. Our Aistear space was a hive of activity as Santa's Workshop. Alongside our learning lots of arts and crafts were brought home for all to enjoy. Take a look at who paid a visit to our classroom, we loved every minute of it, the huge smiles says it all! We hope you enjoy our amhráin and songs, we loved singing and performing them.

September/October 2023
September was a very busy month. We had lots of fun settling back to school.

We took full advantage of the fabulous weather, having lunch outside and exploring our new sensory garden! You can hear the excitement in their voices.

Maths is always lively and engaging. We had competitions between our tables for sorting and colour hunt activities. Some students were afraid teacher was going to get into trouble for writing on the tables for the story of 6, anything for a bit of fun!

Art played a big part in our classroom with the children completing amazing portraits & lots of other masterpieces.
